Only Ask For Help When You REALLY Need It

"Only Ask For Help When You REALLY Need It."

And by then the damage has already been done.

====

This is (hopefully "was" now) a very common admonition in Primary school which is supposed to remind children to be independent, self-sufficient, and stand on their own 2 feet.

But, that's why communication is so important,
because what children really hear is,

"If you ask for help, you are weak, needy and a parasite, worthy only of scorn, ridicule and disgust."

====

It comes down to what you believe is fundamentally human nature.

If you believe human beings are naturally lazy, licentious, apathetic creatures,
than asking for help is an expression of that laziness and lack of desire to work.

If you believe human beings are inherently noble creatures,
than a person asking for help is a sincere request and done because a person really needs help.

I believe that when people ask for help, it is because they genuinely need it,
and they should keep asking for help,
until they feel they can move on their own.
